About the Department

The Department of Community Science (formerly known as Home Science) is an integrated evolving field of study which offers both arts and science courses to achieve a better quality of life for individuals, families and communities at large. The department was introduced in the year 2006 to offer various courses of Home science. Effort in this area strives to give an understanding of education to the young women and build capacities to meet the challenges and generate employment. The department of Community Science offers various undergraduate courses such as Family Resource Management and Consumer Science, Interior Design, Hospitality Management, Ergonomics, Food Science and Nutrition, Human Nutrition, Human Development and Psychology, Care and Well Being, Gender and Social Justice, Textile and Apparel Designing, Extension Education, Health and Wellness etc. to prepare students to be Interior designer, Nutritionist/Dietician, Fashion designer, Manager. The Department encourages the students to implement a scientific understanding of the subject and acquaint them with the use of new methods and technology in the family and community by sustainable use of resources.As an added dimension, the Department also provides short-term vocational certificate courses for entrepreneurial development. The present faculty strength of the department is two and both are Assistant professors.

The vision of the department is to empower young women through high-quality education and prepare them for future diverse professional careers nurturing both individual and societal growth and advancement.
