The department of Sociology of Moran Mahila Mahavidyalaya embarked its journey in 1992 itself with the setting up of the college. In its fifth year of establishment, the department started major course in the year 1997. It is a matter of pride and honour to share that since its commencement a total of 191 students could secure 1st class with significant ranks in BA final examination under Dibrugarh University. Presently the department has four regular faculties and around 200 students in Major courses and 150 students in Minor courses in FYUGP and CBCS semesters.
The department has a well decorated wall magazine named “Pratyashi” which is published regularly in every year. Besides the department publishes students’ journal "Gyanom" where the students of the department contributes their writings on the subject as well as on present socio-economic conditions of the society. It brings to light the creative genius of the students. Currently the discipline of sociology has introduced some pressing concepts both for major and non-major undergraduate courses. These include social psychology, mass communication, globalisation, science and technology, industrial sociology, health and hospital management, rural sociology, political sociology, economic sociology, sociology of North East India, environmental sociology, sociology of religion, urban sociology etc. These emerging areas emanate interest among the new generation to sociology.
Library: The Department of Sociology have a Library with more than 200 books which helps the poor students.
