Late Dr. Sukha Baruah

Moran Mahila Mahavidyalaya may be regarded as the brain child of the distinguished litterateur and founder Principal Dr. Sukha Baruah. In recognition of her contributions to society and literature Dr. Baruah, who also served as the President of Hodou Axom Lekhika Xomaruh Samiti and Hodou Axom Mahila Kobi Manch, was honoured with several prestigious titles. It includes Ratnagarbha, Moran Konwari, Karmayogi, Preronamoyee, Habruni Faame (Lotus of mud) and Jasingafa. It is worth mentioning that this illustrious lady was the recipient of the prestigious “Chandraprobha Saikiani Award, 2015” and “Birangona Mulagabhoru Award, 2017”. She made phenomenal contributions to Assamese culture and literature through her research based publications and edited volumes. Her acclaimed work Ahom Xokolor Utsav Onusthan, a comprehensive research-based publication, was first published in the year 2007, with subsequent editions in the year 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2018. Besides she edited numerous volumes that reflect her commitment in preservation of Assamese culture and heritage, namely Buronjiye Porokha Madhyajugor Hunali Xubakh, Tai Ahom Xokolor Swokiyo Dharmiya Parampara, Tai Ahom Xokolor Ritukalin Utsav-Anusthan, Prabandha Shamikshan, Chinta Taranga, Nari Ratna: Jivani Sankalan (1st, 2nd & 3rd Editions), Satabdir Lekhika, Itihas Anudhyan, Prabandha Bichitra, Pransanga: Nari, Jibonor Logot Jorito Utsav Anusthan, Aparajeo (Short Stories), Sabdar Hoite Alaap, Duborit Niyoror Mukuta Xore and Sabda Xilpo (poems). Dr. Baruah’s life and work, who received literary pension of Government of Assam, remains an enduring source of inspiration, reflecting her unwavering commitment in preservation and promotion of Assamese literature and culture. Her legacy continues to inspire generations, not only in academia but also in the wider cultural sphere, as a symbol of relentless dedication and excellence.
